Busisiwe Mkhwebane and husband David Skosana to face off in Parliament
Former Public Protector and now Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament (MP) Busisiwe Mkhwebane and her husband David Skosana will seat on opposite benches as he will make her debut representing the Jacob Zuma-led uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

After being fired in 2023 Mkhwebane joined the Red Berets as an MP. Her husband will also make his debut in the seventh administration.

ALLEGATIONS OF EXTORTION SCHEME AND VOICE RECORDINGS
Following the sudden death of ANC MP Tina Joemat-Pettersson, Skosana said she approached him and allegedly asked for R600 000 to be split among the three ANC MPs. In return, they would make the inquiry into Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office go away.
All three ANC MPs vehemently denied the allegations. Skosana said he opened a case with the police, while Mkhwebane complained to Parliament’s Joint Ethics and Members’ Interests.
At a press conference, Mkhwebane played voice recordings of someone who appeared to be Joemat-Pettersson during one of the alleged meetings with Skosana.
The former Public Protector repeatedly said the State was responsible for Joemat-Pettersson’s death, but admitted she did not know the cause.
According to EWN, during her impeachment inquiry, Mkhwebane alleged long-standing Democratic Alliance (DA) MPs Natasha Mazzone and Kevin Mileham had not declared their marriage when Mazzone submitted the motion that led to the inquiry, and Mileham served on the committee deciding on her impeachment.
NOT THE FIRST HUSBAND AND WIFE SERVING IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
This is not the first time husband and wife have both served in Parliament at the same time. Basic Education Minister Angie and her husband Mathole Motshekga also served in the National Assembly at the same time.
