Leyds is Prepared to Take Charge
Tristan Leyds claims he has put significant effort into enhancing his defensive skills and is eager to demonstrate that he can tackle ‘n ding flou when he represents the Blitzboks at the Dubai Sevens this weekend.
This trip to the United Arab Emirates for the SVNS series opener marks the first for the 27-year-old from Cape Town, and he expresses a desire to duik his critics flat this weekend.
Leyds elaborates: “I have confidence in my abilities and how to integrate myself within the team structure. Experiencing this for the first time adds to the thrill of going out and showcasing my skills.
“Since joining last year, I have worked diligently on my game and feel I am now getting the hang of it. There was some criticism concerning my defense, but I have dedicated myself to improving in that area. I feel confident now, and I won’t just be a number in the defensive line.”
The Blitzboks may apply pressure on Leyds’ number as their playmaker in the absence of the usual captain, Selvyn Davids.
Nonetheless, he is thrilled to be with the team and states: “I am extremely excited and eager to make the most of my first tournament here.
“We have clear objectives, and we are prepared to go out and express ourselves.”
