Matrics Encouraged to Shine Bright

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has advised Grade 12 students to remain cautious and observant as the matric exams concluded yesterday.

The last exams taken were Agricultural Management Practices (730 candidates), Marine Sciences Paper 2 (120 candidates), and Design Paper 1 (905 candidates).

MEC for Education, David Maynier, expressed gratitude to the community for their support of the learners throughout the five-week National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination period.

“This support has enabled us to ensure that all candidates had the opportunity to sit for their exams, even under challenging conditions.”

“With the exams now behind them, many learners will participate in formal matric rage events and smaller end-of-exams celebrations. While it is understandable that our matrics wish to celebrate the conclusion of their school careers, we implore them to do so safely and responsibly,” Maynier emphasized.

Grade 12 students attending pens down parties are encouraged to:

– Familiarize themselves with safety protocols at the event and be aware of the relevant emergency contact numbers.

– Be vigilant about their belongings at all times.

– Immediately report any suspicious behaviors to the police or event coordinators.

– Refrain from drinking and driving.

– Establish a buddy system for safety and maintain regular communication with parents or guardians.

Maynier urged parents to discuss personal safety with their children.

He also announced that the national reveal of the matric results has been rescheduled to Monday, January 13, 2025, to align with the first day of school.

Individual results will be available at schools and on the WCED website starting at 10am the following day.
