Sharks Aim to End Winless URC Streak Against Stormers
The Sharks have a grudge to settle with the Stormers as the two teams prepare to meet in the United Rugby Championship at Kings Park in Durban tomorrow at 5pm.
Even with a cargo of Springboks in their lineup in recent seasons, the Sharks have yet to defeat the Stormers in their last SEVEN encounters, including six in the URC.
The best result for the Durbanites was a 22-22 draw back in January 2022, with Sharks star Lukhanyo Am and his teammates facing defeat in one match prior and five consecutive losses since.
Sharks lock Jason Jenkins openly expresses that this matchup holds personal significance for them, stating: “Any local derby is always challenging.
“It feels more personal. Our record against the Stormers in the URC is not great, and we aim to change that.”
Both teams have played five matches in the URC thus far, with the Stormers currently positioned in 13th place with only two wins, while the Sharks sit in ninth with three victories.
Stormers assistant coach Dawie Snyman, however, believes that the month-long international break has been beneficial, stating: “We were in a situation where nearly our entire squad could train together and were fit to head to Durban. This allowed us to focus on a few aspects as a group.
“We are aware of what lies ahead. They are a strong Sharks team that performs well in Durban…”
Head coach John Dobson is set to announce his team for the encounter today.
