Rice Claims Arsenal is Now Setting Its Sights on the Reds
ARSENAL continue to trail behind the unstoppable Premier League leaders Liverpool, even after a resounding 5-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday. However, midfielder Declan Rice states that there is a strong resolve within the team to close the gap.
Rice contributed two assists, reminding Liverpool that they won’t be relinquishing the chase easily.
Liverpool sits six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal and has a game in hand, displaying little indication of faltering in their quest for a 20th league title.
Nonetheless, Rice insists that the season is far from over.
He mentioned to Sky Sports: “Liverpool are still quite far in front, particularly with the game in hand, and after their win yesterday, you know you must go into the next game needing a victory.
“The most frustrating moments are the games like Aston Villa where we were 2-0 ahead and ended up dropping points because we could be much closer to Liverpool.
“But we will be in contention, and we will continue to push forward. While we do need assistance from others, we are fully aware of our aim, which is to catch up with them and win the Premier League.
“We must remain optimistic, and I’m confident we will be alright.”
Arsenal narrowly missed out in the previous two seasons as City held Mikel Arteta’s men at bay, allowing them to extend their title-winning streak to an unprecedented four consecutive championships.
On Sunday, goals from Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz, and Ethan Nwaneri effectively eliminated City from the title race.
Arteta remarked: “It is a fantastic day for us, especially given our need to secure a victory. I’m delighted with the way we achieved it.
“Overall, we scored some excellent goals, and the team displayed a high level of competitiveness.”
