Martinelli believes Arsenal can overcome Cup deficit

GABRIEL Martinelli believes Arsenal can overcome their two-goal deficit against Newcastle United in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final at St James Park on Wednesday.

Newcastle faced a defeat against Fulham over the weekend, but they have claimed victory in 10 out of their last 12 matches across all competitions, while Arsenal secured a significant 5-1 victory over Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday.

After goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon led Newcastle to a 2-0 win in the first leg, Martinelli is optimistic that his team can turn the tide in Wednesday’s encounter.

Martinelli mentions to Tribuna: “Playing there [at St James’ Park] is challenging. They are a very strong team, but we have complete faith in our squad and in ourselves.

“It will surely be another tough battle. We are aware of how hard it is to play there. However, as mentioned, we have a fantastic team and we believe in our abilities. We are heading there to win.”

He then warns: “We are going there to secure a win and aim to score three, four, or even five goals. It’s going to be a tough match, without a doubt. But we will give our all to win the game.”

CONFIDENT: Magpies manager Eddie Howe

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who may have striker Callum Wilson back after a significant absence, states: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us – and that’s if the score is 0-0 – so let’s set aside any talk of a lead; it’s 0-0 and we are playing at home.

“It’s a brilliant chance to attack the game and make the most of everything in front of us to perform at our best.”
