Ex-Girlfriend Arrested for Setting Fire to Bra’s Home

A 27-year-old woman has been apprehended in relation to an arson incident that took place at her former boyfriend’s residence on Steve Biko, within the Villa Nora policing area.

The arson occurred on Friday morning, around 5 am on July 25, 2025.

“As per the report, the male complainant was asleep in his home when his ex-girlfriend knocked on the door, which he did not answer,” stated Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

“She began breaking the windows. He woke up and sought help from the neighbors, at which point the suspect set the house on fire.”

Police were summoned to the location and initiated a case of arson.

The officers immediately launched an investigation, and the woman was successfully arrested.

The police reported that the total damage caused by the fire is estimated at R520,000, “including all belongings that were lost.”

The detained woman appeared in court on Monday, facing arson charges.

Earlier this year, IOL reported that in a shocking act of vengeance, a woman in Giyani, Limpopo, narrowly escaped with her life after her ex-boyfriend allegedly set her shack on fire.

At that time, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba mentioned that authorities arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with the alleged arson incident that transpired on March 20 at approximately 9 pm.

Mashaba noted that a 36-year-old woman from Homu Village was inside her shack when she reportedly heard her ex-boyfriend threatening to ignite it.

When she opened the door, she saw the suspect standing in her yard, holding a container—believed to contain petrol—and a box of matches.

He added that the woman managed to escape and took cover nearby before the suspect could set the shack ablaze.
