Bail Granted to ‘Mute’ Officer Who Observed Chesnay Kepler Murder Case

Johannesburg – Constable Llewelyn Meyers, who was arrested for allegedly witnessing the deadly shooting of Crime Warden Chesnay Kepler and not reporting it, has been granted bail.

Constable Meyers was taken into custody last week and appeared in court alongside his co-defendant, Sergeant Buthelezi.

Along with failing to report the incident, Constable Meyers also faces charges of attempted murder and assault.

Sergeant Buthelezi, who is also out on bail, is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Kepler, last December.

Sergeant Buthelezi is charged with murder.

Both officers are stationed at the Eldorado Police Station.

Their case has been rescheduled for pre-trial on 11 September 2025 at the Johannesburg High Court.
