Outcry Follows Roblox’s Ban on Whistleblower

Roblox is currently embroiled in a significant controversy after banning YouTuber Schlep, a 22-year-old content creator known for exposing alleged predators on the platform.

This decision has sparked widespread criticism, including a petition calling for the resignation of CEO David Baszucki, which has already gathered 215,000 signatures.

With over 1.6 million subscribers, Schlep’s channel focuses on “predator hunting” within Roblox’s child-friendly environments.

He claims that his investigations have resulted in at least six arrests over the last year.

Schlep revealed that he was groomed on Roblox as a child by a prominent developer.

When his mother reported the incident, Roblox allegedly brushed off her concerns, allowing the abuser to remain active for years.

This experience motivated him to commit his channel to safeguarding children on the platform he grew up with.

On August 11, Roblox suspended Schlep’s accounts and issued him a cease-and-desist letter.

The company accused him of engaging in “harmful activities,” moving conversations off-platform, and obstructing official safety measures.

Roblox maintains that only trained professionals and law enforcement should handle predator cases, not independent creators.

Schlep argues that these accusations are unwarranted. He explains that predators frequently move to Discord, where he tracks evidence before reporting it to the police.

Rather than acting on those reports, he claims Roblox chose to target him: “They refuse to act in many cases,” he stated, describing the ban as devastating.

The petition for resignation is gaining traction, and Chris Hansen, known for the “To Catch a Predator” series, has allegedly reached out to Schlep for a potential documentary.

In response to the outcry, Roblox is introducing new safety features, including an “Adults-Only” section that restricts certain content to players aged 18 and above.
