In disturbing reports emerging from Limpopo, a man has received a life sentence for the rape of a 101-year-old grandmother, and another man has been arraigned for the rape of a three-year-old girl.

Abram Johannes Mahlangu, 28, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the assault on the elderly woman, in addition to a three-year term for housebreaking.

The crime took place in Sehlakoana Village, Zaaplaas, during the early hours of Saturday, July 27, 2024.

The court noted that the elderly woman had securely locked her doors and windows before going to bed.

The perpetrator gained entry, forcefully restrained her, commanded her to remain silent, undressed her, and assaulted her.

Following this horrific act, the assailant fled through a window.

The 66-year-old suspect, Selaelo Justice Mongalo, was quickly apprehended and is now facing serious charges.

He appeared in the Morebeng Magistrate Court on October 1, 2025, after being arrested by the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Polokwane on Monday, September 29.

Reports suggest that on Friday, September 25, 2025, after Mongalo had dropped the child off at home, she began experiencing pain, leading her guardian to take her to a medical facility, where the distressing truth was revealed: the child had been raped.
