Teen and Grandfather from Manenberg

Law enforcement officials in Manenberg have apprehended a 15-year-old boy with R14 000 worth of dwelms, along with an oupa who was found in possession of an AK-47 assault rifle, in two distinct incidents.

On Wednesday around 2pm, Metro Police, while patrolling Sabie Road, noticed the school-aged laaitie walking suspiciously with a plastic bag.

Upon stopping him, the officers discovered the teen was carrying a substantial quantity of vrag drugs.

A statement from the City of Cape Town’s Directorate of Safety and Security indicated: “The officers approached him and sought permission to conduct a search.

“They seized just over 200 packets of tik, more than 150 mandrax tablets, 20 packets of cocaine, and nearly two dozen ecstasy pills.”

Metro police reported that the 15-year-old suspect was taken into custody at Manenberg Police Station for further investigation, and his ouers were notified of his arrest.

Meanwhile, a 61-year-old suspect is slated to appear in court on Friday for possession of illegal firearms following his arrest on Wednesday afternoon.

Lieutenant-Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, spokesperson for the Hawks, elaborated that they acted on intelligence regarding an AK-47 assault rifle located in a residence on Joseph Street, Manenberg.

He stated: “The information was promptly operationalized, and upon searching the premises, an AK-47 assault rifle was discovered. The suspect was taken into custody as he could not provide a valid explanation for possessing the firearm.”

“He is scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court on 3 October.”
