Joburg Metro Police Seize 56 Bales of Dagga and Arrest Two Individuals

Johannesburg – The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit (TRU) successfully confiscated 56 bales of dagga (cannabis) and arrested two individuals.

The arrests took place on Thursday, 2 October 2025, after law enforcement received a tip-off.

According to JMPD Spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla, the suspects were intercepted by police on the M2 West highway while heading towards the Johannesburg CBD.

During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered two bales of dagga inside.

An unlicensed firearm and 13 live rounds of ammunition were also recovered from the vehicle.

Upon questioning, the two male occupants admitted to transporting the dagga for distribution in the Yeoville area.

“A follow-up investigation, initiated by information from the suspects, led officers to a self-storage facility on Hilton Road in Limbro Park,” Superintendent Fihla noted.

“At this storage site, the JMPD team found an additional 54 bales of dagga, bringing the total seizure to 56 bales.”

Superintendent Fihla confirmed that both suspects have been formally charged with possession of dagga, as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
