Here’s a suggested rewrite for the title: “Terug op de Been”.

A family in Delft is relieved that their seven-year-old son survived after being hit by a stray bullet during a shooting incident that left two people dead on Sunday.

The tragic event occurred on Sunday morning around 11 am on Auber Street in Delft South, where two adult males were fatally shot.

Grade 2 student Muurhadien Lenneth was also injured by a stray bullet in the attack, narrowly escaping with his life while walking to a nearby shop with friends.

According to police reports, it is alleged that both deceased men were sitting and drinking at the location when unidentified assailants began shooting at them, in what is believed to be a gang-related altercation.

Medical personnel pronounced the two men dead at the scene, while Muurhadien was rushed to a medical facility for care.

The boy’s father, Salie Solomons, stated that his son was heading to the store with friends when he was shot in the right leg.

The father recounted: “My son and his friends were on their way to the shop when the shooting started. One of his friends came to alert us, and when we arrived, we found that he had been hit in the right leg.

“Only one bullet struck him. He was taken to Delft Day Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged and is back at home. He is walking slowly but is safe and recovering well.

“I feel much better knowing he’s home alive after the incident. While two people lost their lives that day, we are grateful to have him back, especially since the bullet only hit his leg and not vital areas like his head or organs.

“I keep him indoors now and allow his friends to visit, but he is speaking and playing. However, he is somewhat traumatized by the event, expressing that he no longer wants to play outside.”

Authorities are looking into two murder cases and one attempted murder case.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, with no new updates available.
