KILLED OUTSIDE HIS HOME
A SUSPECTED Hard Livings gang member has become the latest victim of the gun violence affecting Mitchells Plain.
The 46-year-old man, referred to as ‘Bollie’, was shot multiple times on Moloto Street at approximately 7am, succumbing to his injuries while in the passenger seat of a maroon Opel Kadett.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi has confirmed that the incident is currently under investigation.
Swartbooi stated: “Mitchells Plain police responded to a complaint on Tuesday, 7 October 2025. Upon their arrival at Molopo Street in Portlands around 7am, they discovered a man seated in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.”
“The motive for this shooting is suspected to be gang-related, and the Mitchells Plain police are conducting a murder investigation.”
Norman Jantjies, chairperson of the Mitchells Plain Community Police Forum, noted a recent resurgence in gang-related shootings over the past week, following a brief lull after Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia’s visit last month.
Jantjies told the Daily Voice: “The deceased was in his car outside his house on Molopo Street when he was shot multiple times; about 10 bullet casings were found. The community claims he is associated with the Hard Livings group in the area.”
“There is always a risk of retaliation, as we still do not know what instigated the shooting. Portlands has typically been gang-free, but it’s clear that the situation has changed in recent months.”
“We are always concerned about the potential harm to innocent bystanders. We urge the public to stay alert and avoid putting themselves in danger, particularly children. If you observe any suspicious activities, please report them to the police.”
“Since the minister’s visit, we initially saw a decrease in crime rates, but over the past week, there has been a noticeable increase again.”
“While we have observed a greater police presence, it doesn’t seem to have had the desired effect yet.”
“We request that the police maintain their visibility and ensure a thorough investigation so we can achieve successful convictions and confiscate firearms.” Police are encouraging anyone with information to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
