Ethiopian Suspect Arrested in Bontas Murder Case

POLICE have made significant progress by arresting an Ethiopian national linked to the murder of Adrian Arrison, 36, from Mitchells Plain, who was shot and killed in Bonteheuwel on Monday.

Bishop Lavis police responded to a report of a shooting around 6 am on Monday morning at Citrus Street in Bonteheuwel and discovered Adrian’s body, which had sustained gunshot wounds.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that a 34-year-old Ethiopian national has been taken into custody on a murder charge.

Swartbooi stated: “The investigating officer worked diligently to gather all pertinent information, which led to this breakthrough.

“A 34-year-old man, an Ethiopian national, has been detained for murder and is set to appear in Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 9 October 2025, regarding the charge. There may be further arrests.”

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear; however, a family member of the deceased indicated that Adrian was not involved in gang activities and leaves behind three children.

The family member shared: “The foreign national was his friend. The person who was with them is known as a Fancy Boy, referred to as Aii.

“It seems there was an issue in the car, and this Aii shot him. Only one shot was fired, and he was also robbed. It wasn’t gang-related, as both the foreign national and Adrian are not gangsters.

“We are also waiting for details about what truly happened in the car since the girl cannot be found.”

Ward councillor Angus McKenzie reiterated the family member’s statements and expressed gratitude to the community for their prompt assistance.

“I can confirm that the motive for this shooting was not gang-related, as the victim was not a known gangster. Currently, robbery appears to be the motive behind the assault.

“I sincerely thank the members of our community who provided crucial information. Your bravery and willingness to come forward have made a significant difference. It’s evident that our SAPS, Law Enforcement, and Metro Police officers are making great efforts to foster stronger connections with residents. When communities speak out, these officers can perform their duties effectively.

“We will continue to monitor this case closely and provide updates as more information becomes available.”
