Bin Pickers Fatally Shot
OTTERY was shaken by the tragic murder of two bin pickers on Thursday morning.
The victims, aged 34 and 39, were often seen in the area during bin collection days. They were shot dead in cold blood while searching for valuables at the corner of Elzeth and Woodlands Roads shortly after dawn.
Witnesses reported that five men approached them before one victim was shot immediately and the other was found dead in a nearby flower bed while attempting to flee.
Naz Karodia, Chairperson of the Lansdowne Community Policing Forum (CPF), stated that both men were from Hanover Park.
Karodia commented: “Two coloured males, known to reside in Hanover Park and regularly seen in the area on bin collection days, were fatally shot.”
“The exact details surrounding the shooting are still unclear at this time. Residents reportedly heard multiple gunshots before finding one victim in the street and the other in a nearby residential property.”
She noted that officers from Lansdowne SAPS are actively investigating the matter.
It remains unconfirmed whether the shooting is gang-related; however, the CPF has urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to proceed as required.
The CPF extends its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this senseless tragedy.
