PADVARKE BUS ATTACK

Authorities are investigating a case of assault and malicious damage to property after a window of a Golden Arrow bus was shattered during a road rage altercation.

The event took place on the R300 near Watergate on Tuesday afternoon around 5pm, and videos of the incident are spreading on social media.

A nine-second video captures a man in work pants arguing with who appears to be the bus driver. Another man, wearing a black t-shirt and wielding a stick, then smashes the bus window before both men walk away.

Passengers inside the bus can be heard yelling and cursing at the assailants. One passenger repeatedly shouts, “yay n**iers,” while a woman adds, “and this one with the stick, haibo.”

Fight Against Crime SA posted an incident report stating: “A road rage event unfolded on the R300 near Watergate [on Tuesday].

“A small truck was observed driving erratically alongside the public bus, then suddenly cut in front, forcing the bus to stop. The truck occupants then exited and confronted the bus in an aggressive manner, leaving bus passengers stranded.

“Some commuters were compelled to walk towards Watergate while others waited for a different bus. Such reckless actions represent a significant threat to public safety and must not be overlooked.”

Bronwen Dyke-Beyer, spokesperson for the Golden Arrow Bus Service, confirmed their awareness of the situation but refrained from providing further details regarding the incident.

Bronwen mentioned: “Golden Arrow acknowledges an incident that occurred around 17:00 on Tuesday, October 07, on the R300 near Watergate.

“A case of assault and malicious damage to property has been reported to the South African Police Services, initiating a full investigation.
