SIU Assumes Control of Multi-Million-Rand Sandhurst Property and Confiscates Luxury Cars
Johannesburg – The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has seized several high-end vehicles and a multi-million-rand property in Sandhurst linked to a suspect involved in the looting of Tembisa Hospital.
Earlier this month, the SIU published an interim report regarding the Tembisa Hospital investigation.
Three primary syndicates have been identified by the SIU as responsible for embezzling funds from the hospital, with an estimated R2 billion missing.
Today’s operation at the luxury Sandton residence of businessman Hangwani Morgan Maumela is part of an R820 million asset recovery initiative led by the SIU.
In response to the situation, the General Industries Workers Union of South Africa (GIWUSA) emphasized that the raid represents a significant step forward for a nation whose public funds have been severely misused by syndicates.
“We view this raid not merely as an operation to seize luxury goods, but as a vital initiative to reclaim public resources and pursue justice for the working class and underprivileged residents of Tembisa,” declared GIWUSA President Mametlwe Sebei.
“The operation at Maumela’s home is a strong statement, but it is only the beginning.
“GIWUSA stands in solidarity with all workers and communities impacted by this corruption, as they face deteriorating public services.
“We will continue our advocacy and campaigning until every cent taken from the hardworking people of Tembisa and other impoverished areas is recovered, and all accountable individuals face consequences.”
