As the final match commenced, the SPAR Proteas sought to overcome the disappointment from their previous encounter in Wollongong.

Conversely, the Aussie Diamonds, already having clinched the series, exuded confidence.

Despite a strong start from the South African team, the reigning champions surged forward in the closing three minutes, netting seven consecutive goals.

The Aussie Diamonds wrapped up the first quarter leading 20 – 11.

In the second quarter, the SPAR Proteas showcased some improvement, leveraging their pace, but the Australians remained steadfast.

To narrow the deficit, SPAR Proteas Head Coach Jenny van Dyk made two strategic adjustments midway through the quarter.

She brought Owethu Ngubane in for Kamogelo Masego and welcomed Juanita van Tonder in place of goalkeeper Nicola Smith.

Nevertheless, the match’s tempo remained unchanged.

Australia’s experience and superiority were evident as they claimed the quarter 19 – 9.

At halftime, the host nation led 39 – 20.

For the championship quarter, Van Dyk made further modifications to the SPAR Proteas lineup, introducing Rolene Streutker and Refiloe Nketsa.

The SPAR Proteas held their own and edged the quarter 12 -10; however, Australia maintained a significant 49 – 32 lead.

The SPAR Proteas put forth a commendable effort in the final quarter, but the physical prowess of the Aussie Diamonds allowed them to net 16 goals compared to the South Africans’ 10 in those last 15 minutes.

In the end, the world champions secured a remarkable victory, finishing 65-42.

Reflecting on the game, SPAR Proteas Head Coach Van Dyk stated: “Firstly, we want to congratulate Australia on their stellar performance.

“Evaluating our side, I think there were moments when we executed our attacks proficiently.

“There’s a lot of work ahead; we have several aspects to enhance.

“We are looking forward to returning home and focusing on those improvements.”

Van Dyk pointed out that the coaching staff had identified specific areas for growth, acknowledging that they wouldn’t be quick fixes, but would require substantial effort.

“Many of the areas we’ve recognized need serious attention and cannot be addressed swiftly,” explained Van Dyk.

“This is something we need to instill in our players.

“We’ve gained valuable insights into our players—understanding their strengths, adaptability, and how to manage them.

“This series has been an eye-opener and a rich learning opportunity.”
