A teenager from Mitchells Plain inspired her fellow matriculants by making a grand entrance at her Matric Ball via helicopter.

Gabby-Lee Davids, 18, made a memorable arrival at Spine Road High School on October 3, leaving everyone in awe.

She credited Helivate, the helicopter company, for making this extraordinary moment a reality.

The teen expressed: “Their professionalism and support helped me turn a lifelong dream into a reality.”

For Davids, this experience was not just about the entrance; it was about proving that you can achieve anything you aspire to, regardless of your circumstances.

She stated: “I live in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. It’s my hometown, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.”

“I came up with this idea because, growing up, there were moments when people underestimated me and doubted my potential.”

“This was my chance to prove them wrong and do something memorable.”

“Arriving by helicopter wasn’t just about a dramatic entrance; it served as a reminder that you can rise above how others perceive you and make your dreams come true. It was a celebration of my journey and how far I’ve come.”

“The reactions from everyone were priceless.”

“As soon as they heard the helicopter, cheers erupted, and people began recording videos. When I emerged, all eyes were on me. It was incredibly empowering.”

She noted that this experience laid the groundwork for her future career.

The young woman shared: “Post-school, I intend to study to become a paramedic. Helping others in emergencies has always been my passion.”

“I aspire to be someone who makes a difference during critical moments, providing care and calm when it’s most needed. It’s a lifelong dream, and I’m determined to pursue it.”

“The helicopter ride was amazing. It’s hard to put into words—both nerve-wracking and exhilarating.”

“Seeing the world from above was a breathtaking experience, and I couldn’t stop smiling. It was my first helicopter ride, making it even more special.”

“I’ve flown before on a plane, but this was a completely different experience—more intimate, thrilling, and genuinely unforgettable.”

Her father, Gavin Davids, expressed how precious the moment was: “Watching my daughter step out of that helicopter filled me with pride and emotion.”

“It wasn’t merely a grand entrance; it showcased her determination and fearlessness. I’ve witnessed her grow through challenges and continue to stand tall.”

The helicopter departed the following day due to flight schedules and air traffic regulations.
