Three Arrested for Armed Robbery in Bellville

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced the apprehension of three individuals in connection with a kidnapping and armed robbery that took place in Bellville on Thursday.

As reported by the police, a 23-year-old man was forcibly taken into a vehicle by four perpetrators while walking down a street. Officers from the National Intervention Unit, present in the vicinity as part of Operation Lockdown III, observed the vehicle and initiated a pursuit.

“Prompt action by the members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) National Intervention Unit (NIU) resulted in the capture of three suspects linked to the kidnapping and armed robbery in Bellville on Thursday, October 9, 2025,” the police stated.

“Initial reports indicate that a 23-year-old man was walking along the street when he was confronted by four suspects who forced him into their vehicle, driving away swiftly.”

The police further mentioned that the suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. Officers successfully apprehended three individuals at the scene, while one suspect remains at large.

“During their escape, the suspects’ vehicle encountered members of the NIU, who immediately chased them. After abandoning their vehicle, the suspects tried to flee on foot, but police were able to arrest three of them, although one managed to evade capture.”

“Authorities recovered the victim’s belongings along with a replica firearm that was reportedly used in the crime.”

The NIU is actively deployed in the Western Cape as part of Operation Lockdown III, a national campaign aimed at combating gangsterism, extortion, drug trafficking, and various violent crimes in the province.
