PAY IT FORWARD – A Devoted Mom Shares Her Son’s Soccer Boot Miracle with the World
A mother from Mitchells Plain made a heartfelt request for soccer boots for her son that resonated with many online, leading to a generous donation of new footwear just the next day.
Jamie-Lee Christians from Eastridge shared her story on Facebook on Sunday, expressing her struggles to provide new soccer boots for her 16-year-old son, Malachi Thomlinson.
She included a photo of his worn-out soccer boots, explaining that his only pair of takkies, jacket, and slippers had been stolen from his bag.
Jamie-Lee revealed that financial constraints made it impossible for her to buy new boots, as her husband is the sole breadwinner for the family.
She told the Daily Voice, “The soccer boots were in poor condition. Malachi received them from someone else, but they broke from use during play.”
“Despite the condition, he kept playing and would simply tape them up. But he hardly managed to kick the ball before they came loose; that’s how committed he is.”
“It’s tough because just last week, he showed me the boots he had his eye on. I told him we didn’t have the money; we can barely afford bread.”
“But I promised him I would find a way, and look what happened with God’s grace.”
Jamie-Lee and Malachi’s wishes came true when Yusuf Daniels, author and founder of Living Lekka, contacted her and sent R1,000 via e-wallet.
A thankful Malachi, who plays right back and left wing for both his school team and Mowglies Soccer Club, expressed his gratitude for the new boots in an interview with Daily Voice.
The delighted young player stated, “I’m so grateful for Uncle Yusuf. Soccer has been my passion since childhood, and I aspire to play professionally one day.”
“This past weekend, I participated in a tournament, and a representative from a soccer academy approached me about joining them, but I had to decline due to issues with my boots and transport.”
Daniels mentioned that he and his daughter assist individuals in need through their social media platform, Living Lekka, by gathering donations and support.
He commented, “Seeing the kid so happy means everything to me.”
“I wish him all the best and hope to see him on TV one day.”
In light of the kindness they received, Jamie-Lee is now eager to give back after receiving several generous offers on Facebook.
She posted, “This is a gratitude post. So many people are still reaching out to me.”
“If anyone has spare boots, I’m still in need because we intend to pay it forward.”
“Thank you to everyone who reached out and to those who liked and shared my post.”
