Rodri Plans to Decide on Man City’s Future After the World Cup

MANCHESTER City midfielder Rodri has stated he will hold off discussing his future until after the World Cup, amidst speculation linking him to Real Madrid.

Rodri’s contract at the Etihad Stadium runs until 2027, and he has expressed a desire to eventually return to Spain to continue his career.

The 29-year-old former Ballon d’Or winner has become a target for Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme, who is preparing to contest against incumbent Florentino Perez in this weekend’s elections.

Speaking to reporters at Spain’s pre-World Cup training camp near Madrid, Rodri said: “I try not to give too much weight to the rumours. I understand it’s part of the profession.

“Particularly as a player nears the end of their contract, it’s natural for names to come up.

“I feel very composed, I know where I stand, and I’ll mention that perhaps if it weren’t for the World Cup, circumstances might be different right now.”

Rodri joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

He has clinched four Premier League titles with City and was instrumental in the club’s first Champions League victory three years ago. However, he has sukkeled with injuries since tearing his cruciate ligament in September 2024.

“With the World Cup approaching, my obligation is to remain focused” on the tournament taking place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, which kicks off next Thursday.

Rodri concluded: “Any discussions about my future will be postponed until after the World Cup.”
