Sakeman Saved by Police Intervention
NINE men and two women were apprehended and are set to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday following the rescue of a kidnapped businessman from Summer Greens by police.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) reported that members of the Anti-Kidnapping Task Team investigated a house robbery and kidnapping for ransom involving a 51-year-old businessman on May 25, 2026, in Summer Greens.
The victim and the residents of the house were robbed of smartphones and a significant amount of cash by seven armed individuals.
Law enforcement officials commenced their search, with Brigadier Novela Potelwa noting that the investigation led them from Khayelitsha to Saldanha Bay.
Potelwa remarked: “As part of ongoing investigations… members raided several locations in Makhaza, Khayelitsha, on Friday night, resulting in the arrest of five suspects during a tracing operation.
“Additional information directed the task team to a residence on Basil February Street in the coastal town of Saldanha, where the first suspect was taken into custody.
“Subsequently, they executed another raid at a house on Noordse Street in Saldanha, where the hostage was rescued and three suspects arrested.
“The victim, who was bound and appeared to have sustained injuries from alleged torture, was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
The arrested individuals, seven men and two women aged between 20 and 50, are anticipated to face charges in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for possession of stolen property, firearms and ammunition, as well as robbery, kidnapping, and extortion.
