Coach Conrad Eager to See Rabada Shine for the Proteas
KAGISO Rabada delivered an outstanding performance for the Gujarat Titans in this year’s IPL, leading the tournament with the highest number of wickets.
Back in South Africa, Proteas coach Shukri Conrad wore a broad smile as his star player bagged 29 wickets in 17 matches.
Conrad is eager to unleash his “dragon” against their long-time rivals, Australia, when they visit South African shores this September.
In an exclusive chat with SportsBoom, Conrad shared his thoughts on KG’s IPL success and the upcoming international season: “KG and I have been in regular contact, and we had a lengthy discussion last week.
“I even had to double-check if the speed guns were malfunctioning because I was stunned.
“But KG is in phenomenal shape. His confidence is sky-high. Physically, he’s probably in the best condition of his career, and mentally, he’s in a fantastic place too.
“He’s someone who is eagerly looking forward to the summer. It’s fantastic to have our leading fast bowler in such remarkable form and mental clarity.
“Whether it’s T20 or 50 overs, confidence remains paramount. I’m sure he’ll take a little break upon his return, then start preparing for the summer ahead.
“He is a consummate professional in that regard. We’re absolutely thrilled for him. I’m genuinely happy for him for excelling in the IPL and for bringing that confidence to our next meeting.”
With a Test series against Australia, Bangladesh, and England on the horizon, Conrad added: “I don’t believe there has ever been a more significant Test summer, with both Australia and England coming and a revitalized Bangladesh team that should not be underestimated.
“They now boast a strong lineup of fast bowlers. Therefore, every series this summer is going to be monumental.
“However, it’s wonderful that we can play at home and spend the entire summer on home turf, especially after last year’s accomplishments. We’re fully aware that it’s going to be a massive summer. We will face significant challenges, but we are just extremely excited.”
