Teen Moyo Could Potentially Replace Feinberg-Mngomezulu

STORMERS flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s ankle injury has left the Springboks with a massive gap to fill in the No.10 jersey as they gear up for a challenging international season.

Reports indicate a severe ankle syndesmosis injury, which may keep the playmaker out of action for over three months, likely excluding him from the July Tests and possibly part of the exciting series against the All Blacks later this year.

After a difficult season for the world champions last year, coach Rassie Erasmus will certainly hope Feinberg-Mngomezulu makes a speedy recovery.

He was set to have a significant role this season, but the burden will now shift back to experienced flyhalves Handre Pollard and Manie Libbok for the majority of this year’s Tests.

If Erasmus chooses to explore alternatives outside his established options, Lions flyhalf Chris Smith has bolstered his case with an impressive strong United Rugby Championship season.

While Smith may not possess the inherent flair and skill of Feinberg-Mngomezulu, his game management, precision in goal-kicking, and ability to control territory have established him as one of the most dependable flyhalves in South African rugby.

However, a more plausible solution might arise from the current Bok squad. Libbok and Pollard remain primary contenders, and depending on the strategic approach the Bokke wish to adopt, especially in their initial Test against England, it could ultimately be a close call between the two.

Additionally, utility back Damian Willemse provides valuable options at this stage of the season. Having largely played at flyhalf throughout his career, his versatility across the backline will give Erasmus peace of mind if he opts against introducing another flyhalf.

Then there’s the wildcard choice of teenager Vusi Moyo.

The Junior Bok flyhalf has made a name for himself with solid game control, attacking instincts, and maturity during his time with the SA Under-20 squad, while also making a notable URC debut for the Sharks in May.
