Uniting for Life: Strandfontein Community Comes Together to Support Injured Spar Car Guard
Residents of STRANDFONTEIN united to aid a cherished local car guard after he was shot and injured while on duty.
The young man, affectionately known as Jason the Car Guard to the community, was shot by unidentified assailants on Tuesday evening near the Spar mini centre on Wavecrest Avenue.
The shooting occurred at approximately 6:50 PM when Jason was approached by two individuals who shot him in the back.
Members of the local community quickly sprang into action as news of the shooting spread.
An off-duty firefighter and a nurse, along with two residents, assisted in stabilizing him before he was taken to a medical facility for further care.
At the scene was Sandy Schuter, Chairperson of the Strandfontein Community Police Forum, who said: “I received numerous calls and messages from residents in Wavecrest reporting multiple gunshots. I immediately notified the Strandfontein police about the situation.
“Then I got a call and several WhatsApp messages indicating that there was a body lying at Spar.”
“I rushed to the location, and the victim was still alive when I arrived.”
“The victim received aid from an off-duty firefighter and a nurse who were nearby, along with members of the public who helped with triage until the ambulance arrived.”
“He is recognized by me and many residents as Jason the Car Guard.”
“I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the off-duty firefighter, the off-duty nurse, and the two locals who assisted with triage until help arrived.”
“I believe their quick actions played a crucial role in saving his life before he was taken to the hospital.”
“We would like to urge the community to come forward with any information they may have to the Strandfontein SAPS.”
Another resident shared with the Daily Voice that Jason was always there to help people carry their groceries to their homes.
The unnamed local stated: “He works as a car guard at Spar and is incredibly helpful. He has great respect for shoppers and residents, often accompanying them to their doorsteps with their bags.”
Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that an attempted murder case is currently under investigation at Strandfontein SAPS.
Gwala reported: “This office confirms that Strandfontein police are looking into an attempted murder case related to a shooting incident that took place on Wavecrest Avenue around 6:50 PM on Tuesday, June 2.”
“As per reports, two suspects approached the victim and shot him in the back. He was quickly transported to a medical facility for treatment. The motive for the attack is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made as of now.”
