Jub Jub Accused of Shooting E-Hailing Driver

A typical e-hailing ride in Edenvale reportedly escalated into a shocking kidnapping and shooting event on Sunday morning, resulting in the arrest of media figure Molemo Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub.

Although law enforcement has not officially named the suspect, eNCA has indicated that the 45-year-old man detained in relation to this case is indeed Maarohanye.

The broadcaster mentioned that he is scheduled to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

According to police reports, the situation began shortly after 7:30 am when an e-hailing driver dropped off a female passenger at an address in Edenvale.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe stated that the driver was allegedly approached by a man who accused him of having a romantic involvement with his girlfriend.

Mathe revealed: “It is alleged that at around 7:30 am, the e-hailing driver had taken a female passenger to a location in Edenvale when he was confronted by the suspect, who accused him of being in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.”

“The suspect reportedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and did not allow him to leave. During this altercation, the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm towards the driver.”

The driver was able to escape without injuries and proceeded to a nearby police station to report the incident.

Authorities acted swiftly, apprehending the suspect shortly thereafter.

He is facing charges of kidnapping, unlawful use of a firearm, and obstructing justice.

This arrest adds to the mounting legal issues faced by the television personality and musician, whose previous court cases have garnered significant public interest.

Further information has not been disclosed by police, as investigations remain ongoing.

This incident comes just over a year after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) announced the withdrawal of all rape, attempted murder, and assault charges against him.

Jub Jub was accused by a former girlfriend of raping her in February 2022, claiming the offenses took place between 2006 and 2009.

Following her revelations on social media, three additional women stepped forward with similar claims.

He voluntarily surrendered to the authorities and appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, where he was granted release on R10,000 bail.
