Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton passes away at 79

The beloved Hollywood rom-com icon Diane Keaton, celebrated for her Oscar-winning role in the 1977 classic “Annie Hall” and her performances in “The Godfather” series, passed away at the age of 79, according to a report by People magazine on Saturday.

No further details have been released, and Keaton’s family has requested privacy during this difficult time, as confirmed by a family spokesperson to People, which also noted that the actress died in California.

A source revealed to People magazine: “Her decline was very swift, which was devastating for all who cared for her.

“It was truly unexpected, particularly for someone so full of life and vigor.

“In her later months, she was only surrounded by her closest family, who chose to keep matters very private. Even her long-time friends were not fully aware of the situation.”

Another source mentioned: “Just a few months ago, she was still taking her dog for daily walks. She had a signature look—always wearing a hat and sunglasses, no matter the weather.

“Diane was always warm, funny, and engaging. She treated her dog like a human companion. She had a quirky charm and a classic Hollywood presence. Truly, she was one of a kind.”

A friend reflected on the First Wives Club star, saying she was “one in a million” and was “hilarious until the very end”.

The friend added: “She lived her life on her own terms, surrounded by the people and things she adored…

“Diane had a profound understanding of herself and the life she wished to lead.”

Her family confirmed the passing of the Annie Hall actress on Saturday.

Diane never married but is survived by her adopted children, daughter Dexter, 29, and son Duke, 25.
