Tragedy Strikes Lavender Hill Family: Tino Siegers Killed in Drive-By Shooting Shortly After Purchase
A family from LAVENDER Hill is heartbroken after the tragic shooting of Brentino “Tino” Siegers, a 24-year-old with special needs, who was shot while returning from a nearby shop where he had purchased bread.
The incident occurred just before 9 PM on Potberg Road in Hillview, when a white vehicle pulled up alongside Brentino and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
The family asserted that Brentino faced mental challenges and was not involved in any gang activities.
According to his relatives, Tino was enrolled at Blouvlei LSEN School. While he was not disabled, he had difficulties reading and writing.
His aunt shared: “Tino was sent to the shop by his aunt Gaynor to buy bread and chips last night.”
“It was around 8:50 PM when he walked to the shop, and many people from the community saw him,” she added.
“The family is finding it hard to cope with his loss because Tino never caused trouble and was known as a great handyman for others.”
Another family member recounted at the scene: “He was coming back from the shop with bread in hand, so everyone could see he had just been there.”
“He was incredibly kind; if you asked him to do something, he wouldn’t hesitate. It’s such a tragedy.”
Tino’s younger brother discovered his lifeless body in the street after Tino had just made him a cup of tea before heading to the shop.
An aunt noted: “As Tino lay there, his younger brother came crying and said, ‘Aunty, Tino just made me tea and bread, and now he’s lying dead in the street.’”
