MKP Demands Fired Spokesperson Ndhlela to Return Party Property and Access Card
Durban – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has decisively expelled former spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela from its ranks, with the party being chaired by ex-president Jacob Zuma.
After Ndhlela’s removal as spokesperson, the MKP declared his suspension from membership, his expulsion from Parliament, and demanded the return of all party property in his possession within one week.
Ndhlela was removed from his spokesperson position following a contentious media release concerning the newly established MK Institute, which he asserted would take complete control over the party’s leadership framework.
The party’s leadership described the statement as “null and void,” claiming it was unconstitutional, which prompted his immediate dismissal.
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, MKP National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko sent a letter to Ndhlela outlining the penalties.
“This letter serves to formally inform you that President Jacob Zuma has chosen to suspend your membership in the party effective immediately, pending an investigation,” Nhleko stated.
“This action follows allegations of misconduct, inciting division, and damaging the party’s image.”
The letter, which was reviewed by The Bulrushes, went on: “Pending the investigation’s outcome, you are prohibited from representing the party in any official role and from accessing or managing any MKP social media and public accounts, bank accounts, or digital platforms; you are required to return all party assets, including but not limited to documents, devices, membership cards, passwords, and access credentials, to the Office of the Secretary-General within seven days of this notice.”
Ndhlela, who was quickly replaced as MKP spokesperson by former The Star newspaper editor Sifisumusa Mahlangu, has yet to publicly address his situation.
